Coach Billy’s First 2011 Update 02/01/11

The 2011 Hawk Football Season began on Tuesday evening January 4th.

The important mindset that we have tried to instill is “STAY HUNGRY”  After the administration our eliminated 2nd trimester Football class, we adapted by scheduling our training sessions for 6.00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  With the team eying a showdown with Cass Tech at E.M.U. on August 28th……….the intensity level is high!  We have had very consistent attendance from a core group of players but many more could be benefiting from the work we put in.

There has been great leadership by example from our returning lineman, Mario Ojemudia, Jake Slobin, Aaron Johnson and Jordan Head.  The tone has also been set by stellar holdovers Jake Vento, Aaron Burbridge, Devin Funchess, Keith Marshall and Austin Hunter.

In order for us to achieve our potential we will need a tremendous step forward from the sophomore class, the departing seniors were one of our best classes ever in terms of talent, leadership, commitment and most importantly HAWK PRIDE.

I hope to see an improvement from that group each week.  We have the significant advantage of the presence of two alumni that have contributed greatly this winter…………J.D. Harshbarger our lineman of the year from 2004 and Marvin Hicks Jr. a 1999/2000 State Champion Defensive end have impacted the team to a high degree.  A big thank you to both of them!  We can never have enough alumni support!
