The Farmington Harrison JV football freight train kept rolling last week, thundering past Oak Park High School 47-6 on a beautiful Homecoming week night.
A determined Hawks team rumbled over Oak Park with more than 500 yards of offense en route to the victory. The Hawks are now 5-1.
Hawks running backs rushed 30 times for 315 yards and Hawks quarterback Robert Powell completed 7 of 12 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns, said Harrison JV football Head Coach Joe Pesci.
Like in the past few weeks, it was big plays for the Hawks that got them on the scoreboard. Powell connected with wide receiver Ventura Ingram on a 45-yard touchdown play to make it 7-6 after Oak Park stunned the Hawks by scoring off a fumble on the second play of the game.
``After that touchdown we rolled and dominated on the offensive end,’’ Pesci said. ``We’re getting more and more big plays on offense and this week we didn’t disappoint.’’
Deandre Lipscomb caught his first touchdown pass of the year from Powell and Jordan Austin hauled in yet another miraculous touchdown catch, this time a 50-yard grab.
The Hawks were strong on its running game, scoring 33 points on rushing touchdowns. Pesci said he used about eight different running backs during the game.
Todd Moore added another touchdown on the season with a 25-yard run and freshman Adrian Carter dazzled the crowd with a 50-yard rushing touchdown in which he bounced away from several tackles to score. Mike Hall also added a touchdown for the Hawks.
``Anyone who we put in there to run the ball got 9-10 yards every time. Our running game took off and this was, by far, Robert Powell’s best game at quarterback. He played a tremendous game,’’ Pesci said.
Defensively, Pesci said standouts included Jordan Austin, Colby Nance, Mike Robinson, Chris Williams-Watkins, Todd Moore, and RaQuan Carter.
The Hawks hope to continue its winning ways tonight when they take on Rochester Adams High School at Harrison High School.
